(Cyanoacrylate) An extremely rapid curing
hobby glue that cures quickly for instant bonding, its available
in various viscosities (thin, medium and thick) Take care it
also sticks to skin.
Collective, cyclic, pitch mixing is a type
of swash plate mixing on helicopters, its were three or even
four servos control the cyclic (elevator, ailerons) and all
servos work together to raise and lower the swash plate for
pitch control of the blades.
Centre of gravity is the balancing point for
the aircraft. This is an important step in model plane set up.
If you have a nose heavy plane it can sometimes make the elevator
seem sluggish, a tail heavy plane is more sensitive to elevator
movement and can be rather twitchy, but some planes and pilots
prefer a slightly tail heavy set up for their particular style
of flying.
A horizontal wing mounted either side of
a fuselage at the front they act as elevators, which control
the pitch angle of the plane.
A connecting link between a pushrod end
and the servo control arm, or control horn
A small lever fitted to the control surface
of a model that connects to the push rod
This is the part of an engine that mixes
fuel and air prior to induction, and also houses the throttle
and needle valve
This is the individual frequency that transmitters
transmit on, there are a number of channels to choose from
which enables more than one aeroplane to be flown at any one
time. Channel numbers start from 55 up to 90 using the 35Mhz
band so there are 35 different frequencies to choose from.
Flying sites use a frequency control system to ensure that
only one radio operates on any given channel at one time.
This is the number of separate functions
that a radio can control.
On a switch harness there are three leads,
one goes to the receiver the other one is where the battery
plugs in, the third lead is where the charger plugs into so
that the receiver battery can be charged without removing the
battery from the plane. Also fitted in the side or back of
the transmitter to allow battery charging.
This is an electronic, AC mains or 12volt
DC device that charges rechargeable batteries.
A hand held safety item, usually made of
wood with a rubber covering to protect the propeller, it is
used to flick start a model aircraft engine instead of using
you fingers
In a fuel tank you have the pick up line
that goes to the carburettor, at the end of this line is a
weight, this is called the clunk. This item ensures that the
fuel pickup is weighted and remains in the fuel even when the
model is inverted (upside down).
These are the moving portion
of the aircrafts wing, fin and tail-plane. Ailerons,
Elevators, Rudder as an example.
Found in certain types of servos, this is
where the motor does not have magnets.
An enclosure that generally covers the engine,
a moulded fairing, or round cowling, that increases the appearance
of the model and can also direct the airflow over the engine
for cooling.
