The P-51 MustangTo many people the P51D Mustang was the ultimate fighter of World War Two, and for good reason. Evolved from a specification laid down by the British in the early 1940’s, the American manufactures had just 120 days to manufacture, design and develop this fighter. The original Alison engine powered Mustangs first flew in October 1940. A year later 300 aircraft were delivered to Great Britain. The aircraft whilst displaying good all round performance lacked that extra something to make it special and it was not until the airframe was fitted with the superb Rolls Royce Merlin engine (as used in the Spitfire) that the Mustang legend was born and the fighter really came into its own! With its laminar flow wing the Mustang had the range and performance to get deep into enemy territory escorting bombers, engage enemy fighters and still get back home again, a truly remarkable achievement. In total 15,386 aircraft were produced, and of those that survived many were used for air racing after the war. However, in more recent times others have been restored and painted in their original war time colours and flown at air displays throughout the world, thrilling the crowds with their performance, coupled with the unmistakeable sound of the Rolls Royce Merlin engine “beating up the runway” HAN2420 Hangar 9 P-51 Mustang 60 ARFHangar 9’s “super-scale” P-51 Mustang 60 ARF is a highly detailed
rendition of America’s favourite fighter airplane with more than enough
scale detail to satisfy the most discerning scale pilots. For the ultimate in scale realism the P-51 comes with a wealth of scale detail that has been finished for you including a pre-painted fibreglass cowl, removable scale antenna, scale-shaped spinner, painted scale pilot bust, machine guns and scale wheel hubs tyres. The plug-in two-piece wing features functioning flaps with internally mounted flap linkages to facilitate scale take offs and landings and heavy duty plug-n-play aluminium frame mechanical retracts with working oleo legs, offering ease of use and scale function (retraction speed). The P-51 Mustang 60 can be powered using a variety of 2- or 4-stroke glow engines or even a small 20cc petrol engine. The P-51 can also be quickly and easily converted to electric power straight from the box with no additional modifications or conversions are necessary. The model features a removable easy-access belly hatch and large top hatch for battery packs or radio equipment and all of the necessary mounting hardware so you can easily mount the recommended E-flite motor to this warbird for silent power! This superb scale model has everything you could want from a great looking warbird, but what really sets this Mustang apart from the rest is the covering! To maintain a realistic scale appearance the P-51 is covered with a unique scale-like flat finish covering complete with pre-printed panel lines, hatches and nomenclature. And to complete this stunning model, the “Cripes A’ Mighty 3rd” nose art decal add the final touch of realism. What more could you want, the Legend is back! |
