Twin Otter

Developed by de Havilland Canada in 1964, The DHC-6 Twin Otter made its first flight on May 20,
1965.

A twin-engine replacement for the single-engine Otter the twin engine version is a 20 seat passenger
STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) multi use utility aircraft.

For operators in the rugged outback/bush the reliability of turboprop power and the enhanced
performance provide by the twin 550hp (410 kW) Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6A-20 propeller
turbine engines have made it a successful and a popular alternative to the single engine,
piston-powered Otter which had been flying since 1951.

The design of the wing features double slotted trailing edge flaps and ailerons that work in unison
with the flaps to boost STOL performance enabling the aircraft to get in and out of the shortest o
f landing strips.

The aircraft is available with a fixed tricycle landing gear but can also be fitted with floats or skis, this
combined with its STOL abilities and high rate of climb have made suitable for a variety of uses including
cargo transport, regional passenger airliner duties and MEDEVAC (medical evacuation) in what
would be normally be unreachable areas by conventional aircraft.

In addition, the Twin Otter has also proved very popular with commercial and military skydiving operations
and it remains Canada's most successful commercial aircraft program with more than 800 built.

HAN4610 Hangar 9, Twin Otter ARF

Hangar 9’s Twin Otter is a superb scale ARF model based on the UV-18B military variant flown by
the U.S. Air Force Academy’s parachute team and comes with an accurate Blue and White colour
scheme with pre applied Air Force graphics and decals.

It comes out of the box with a wealth of factory-finished scale details that allow you to complete the
model to near competition standards with the minimum of effort.

The model is constructed from balsa and light plywood and features pre-painted fibreglass engine
nacelles for easy of assembly; they also provide ample room for mounting either .36- to .40-size 2-stroke
glow engines or Power 25 brushless outrunner motors.

Each nacelle has a large top-hatch that allows easy access to fuel tanks or battery packs, additional
fibreglass parts include main landing gear fairings and a fuselage nose cone.

The two-piece wing features fully functioning scale slotted flaps with concealed linkages whilst the fuselage
has fully functioning rear cargo doors that not only enhance the scale looks of the model they also
provide access to the rear section of the fuselage so you can inspect linkages prior to flight.

The pre-painted aluminium main gear is complimented by a machined aluminium nose wheel strut
that features a working oleo-leg to absorb bumps during takeoff and landings.

Hangar9’s high quality hardware pack and illustrated assembly guide complete this fine model, so if you’re
an intermediate to advanced pilot looking for the easy-going flight characteristics that this model has to
offer then the search is over, the Twin Otter is everything you’re looking for and more!
