The Hangar 9 Eagle features a superb scale outline and an absolutely stunning "feather" colour scheme that sets this model apart.

Constructed from lightweight balsa and plywood it includes a pre-painted fibreglass cowling and wheel spats and a pre-finished cockpit and instrument panel.

When it comes to powering the Eagle the choices are three fold; either a 2-stoke .90, 4-stroke 1.25, or electric power with a Power 90 brushless motor. If the later version is chosen, the hardware and box mount are included and no additional modifications are needed for silent aerobatics.

The fuselage features a large removable hatch that allows easy access to the on-board electronics and flight battery if needed, whilst the wings feature wing "transport frames" to make transport easy and offer hassle free assembly/disassembly at the flying field.

With Hangar 9's comprehensive hardware pack and illustrated assembly guide the Christen Eagle can be ready to emulate its full size counterpart with dazzling aerobatics in no time at all, and just like the full size, this is one model that is guaranteed to "wow" the crowds!

The Christen Eagle was Californian Frank Christensen's idea of what a two-seat, great flying aircraft should look like. In the 1970's Christensen bought a bare Pitts S-2A airframe from the factory with the intent of modifying it to his own liking.

Frank was a serious aerobatic pilot and he began modifying the Pitts, however his mind took off in another direction, coming to the final conclusion that the homebuilt world needed a new two-seat biplane design. The Eagle concept and Christen Industries were born, and the modified Pitts never did get finished!

The resulting Eagle homebuilt kits (now part of Aviat Aircraft's offerings) are still the quality standard by which all other kits are measured.

Frank's initial work was aimed at avoiding some of the Pitts's perceived shortcomings. The cockpit was widened and most of the instruments moved to the front dashboard, almost eliminating the rear dashboard altogether. He also eliminated the cockpit sheet metal above the fuselage longerons and the cockpit was finished off with a wide, high bubble canopy giving increased comfort and better in-flight visibility.

The Pitts type landing gear was replaced with a more modern spring type gear which gave better ground handling, the sleeker gear legs also got rid of a lot of aerodynamic drag. Christensen had a good eye for design as well as performance and laid out an entirely new cowling that worked with the cleaner landing gear to make the Eagle a solid 15-20 mph faster than the S-2A with the same engine.

Of course, an Eagle without the distinctive multi-colored feather colour scheme wouldn't be an Eagle, and today some 25 years after it was introduced the Christen Eagle has to be one of the more recognisable airplanes ever built and certainly one of the best flying aerobatic biplanes in the world!
