HAN5190 HANGAR 9 PIPER PAWNEE 33%

Designed with the scale enthusiast in mind, this almost-ready-to-fly airplane replicates the scale outline of its full-size counterpart with a level of accuracy that makes it a great starting point for a competitive scale project.

Scale details such as the fully working sprung undercarriage and the fibreglass "Horner" wing tips greatly improve both the ground handling and the low speed stall characteristics, making this model extremely stable in slow flight with little risk of tip stalling.

The Piper Pawnee is also packed with many other useful features; easy engine installation, pre-painted fibreglass cowl, pre-painted wing struts and operational cockpit doors allowing the possible creation of a detailed cockpit.

Many larger models are designed around a particular engine, but that's not the case with the Pawnee as it features a fully adjustable engine box and drilling jig which allows it to easily accommodate various sized engines from different brands including the Zenoah 80cc, DA100cc, Evolution 80cc and Evolution 58cc.

The fully working undercarriage replicates the full scale version and features working compression springs allowing the Pawnee to operate from rougher flying fields with minimal risk of damaging the undercarriage or model.

Other great features include a removable top hatch for easy access to the fuel tank, as well as an optional rear battery hatch which allows the repositioning of the battery (if needed) to help establish the correct center of gravity depending on the choice of engine installed.

Given the accurate scale nature of this plane it is only fitting that it flies with the same slow speed handling and gentle flight characteristics of its full-scale counterpart. Emphasis has been on producing a plane that will deliver just that, first class model in both aesthetics and handling.

The1/3 scale Piper Pawnee is an ideal giant scale model for pilots looking to get into the wonderful world of large scale model flying and for the ultimate in realism this model also offers them opportunity to try their hand at "aero-towing" a glider just like the full size, and it doesn't get anymore realistic than that!

THE PIPER PA 25 PAWNEE

The Piper PA 25 Pawnee was designed by Fred Weick and produced by Piper Aircraft between 1959 and 1982. When production of the Pawnee ended in early 1982 approximately 5,000 had been built, true testament to the success of this aircraft.

The aircraft is a rugged, easy to maintain agricultural aircraft designed specifically for use in the role of agricultural crop dusting and spraying. It features cranked wings to get the spray bars running along the trailing edge as close to the crops as possible.

When first manufactured the Pawnee was powered by a single 150hp Lycoming O-320 engine, later versions were fitted with a 235hp Lycoming O-540 six-cylinder engine. It features a low-wing, high mounted cockpit that provides the pilot with excellent vision and an airframe largely constructed from steel tubing and covered with fabric. The emphasis of this design is largely one of pilot safety with the fuselage structure designed to collapse progressively during a low speed crash of the sort typically experienced during crop spraying operations.

Further improvements to safety on later Pawnees' featured twin fuel tanks mounted in the outer wing panels, further improving crashworthiness (early models of the Pawnee had a single fuel tank located between the agricultural hopper and the engine)

The undercarriage was also designed to be very strong to absorb the bumps and rough takeoffs and landings that occurred on dirt roads and unmade landing strips.

Many Pawnees have now found their way onto airfields where they are very popular as glider tugs due to their excellent power/weight ratio.
