In
the world of model flying just about everyone has a soft spot
for that all-time classic aircraft, the Piper J3 Cub. Hangar
9 look set to recapture the spirit of that bygone age with the
release of this new almost ready to fly giant-scale J3 Cub. This
super model has an enormous one hundred and six -inch wingspan,
and a host of scale features and detail that will amaze even
the most dedicated of scale modelers. A great deal of attention
has been made in getting the Cub to look as good as it flies,
it features a lightweight, rugged airframe that is constructed
entirely from top quality balsa and C.N.C machined plywood parts,
which is then covered in yellow Ultracote in an authentic Piper
Cub colour scheme complete with registration letters. The scale
look is further enhanced by the addition of a pre-painted fibreglass
cowl complete with dummy cylinder heads, fully functioning landing
gear with bungee suspension, scale Piper Cub “balloon” wheels,
quick fit airfoil shaped aluminum wing struts, a fully detailed
and pose-able full bodied pilot figure, operating door panels,
removable interior seats that allow easy access to the models
interior. Also featured is the simulated tubular construction
to the top of the fuselage, scale fin to fuselage fillet, and
a scale instrument panel complete with the Piper logo in the
tachometer. Thanks to its large size of one hundred and six -inch
wingspan, and light wing loading it has superb slow flight characteristics,
and is capable of taking off and landing at a realistic scale
speeds with the fully functional landing gear soaking up any
bumps. The J3 Cub is a delight to assemble and an absolute joy
to fly, as it is as much at ease doing slow touch and goes as
it is at being used as a training aircraft, and just like the
full-size Cub it handles both of these tasks with ease.
A comprehensive hardware pack, crystal clear windows, and the fully
illustrated assembly guide make getting this Cub into the air easy,
the two-piece wing, fold flat wing struts, and bolt on two-piece
tail make transporting this great model to the flying field even
easier.
