The German
Fokker D.VII was reputedly one of the best fighter aircraft of
the First World War and more than a match for any allied fighter
of the day. The thick wing section and powerful Mercedes engine
allowed the D.VII to perform a manoeuvre whereby it could virtually “hang
on it’s propeller” so that the pilot could fly under
an enemy plane, pull the nose up and fire into the underbelly
of his opponent. This earned it the reputation of being a highly
feared aircraft.
This almost-ready-to-fly version of the Fokker D.VII is an accurate
60-size reproduction of Germany’s famed fighter and the second
WWI fighter in the Hangar 9 warbird line-up, following on from
the British Sopwith Camel. Constructed of laser-cut balsa and plywood
the model comes with an accurate WW1 colour scheme right down to
the Lozenge camouflage covering on the underside of the wings and
tail. This model has enough detail to satisfy the most demanding
of pilots, details like scale vintage style wheels, scale pilot
figure, twin machine guns, hard-wood inter-plane and landing gear
struts, dummy 6 cylinder Mercedes engine with exhaust stack and
simulated rocker arms.
The Fokker D.VII is designed to accommodate a variety of 2- 4-stroke
glow engines or electric power and includes in addition to the
comprehensive hardware pack all the mounting hardware needed for
either version. Access to the battery pack is easy thanks to the
large removable top hatch that also houses the cockpit, pilot and
machine guns. Transport and assembly at the flying field could
not be easier thanks to the bolt on top wing and two-piece bolt
on lower wing. Unlike many WW1 models the inter-plane struts mount
in a unique and easy way making the Fokker D.VII the ideal WWI
fighter to add to your squadron. |
