The French Nieuport 17 was one of the classic fighters of World War
I with its distinctive wing layout and impressive flight characteristics.
Fitted with the 110 hp Le Rhone rotary engine the aircraft had outstanding
manoeuvrability with a good forward speed and rate of climb. It reached
the French front in March 1916 and was adopted by both the Royal Flying
Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service because of its superiority to any
British-designed aircraft then in service.
The Nieuport 17 became the favourite aircraft for many allied air aces
including René Fonck, Georges Guynemer, Charles Nungesser, Albert Ball,
Billy Bishop and
Canadian ace W.A. "Billy" Bishop who was awarded the Victoria
Cross for his heroic flying exploits.
E-flite’s WW1 French Nieuport 17 is the latest addition to the series
of super lightweight scale biplanes designed for indoor flight. It features
a durable vacuum moulded foam airframe to keep weight to a minimum, as
well as substantially reducing the overall wing loading making for a
more realistic type of slow flight.
The model features an accurate pre-painted colour scheme with all of
the national insignia and markings pre-applied for you so you don’t have
to spend hours working on the modelalso features many other time saving
details such as the pre-finished wooden cabane and inter-plane struts,
a moulded dummy “Le-Rohne” engine that rotates just like the real thing
and a detailed Lewis gun mounted on the upper wing.
Designed for use with an E-flite Park 250 brushless outrunner motor,
the Nieuport 17 is a fantastic flying model with outstanding slow speed
characteristics that make it perfect for indoor flight, although thanks
to its generous wing-span the model may also be flown outdoors in very
calm conditions.
