PKZ3900i Ultra Micro J-3 Cub RTF

Parkzone continue to expand their range of scale indoor electric flyers with this delightful ready to fly Piper J3 Cub.

The all foam ready to fly one-piece model features an under cambered wing section designed to allow the model to be flown slowly and an upper wing surface with moulded in wing ribs and doped fabric effect finish for a more scale like appearance.

The engine cowling is complete with dummy Lycoming engine cylinders whilst the lower fuselage has a convenient moulded battery placement “pocket”. The model is finished in a scale Piper yellow colour scheme with black accents, registration numbers and of course the Piper Teddy Bear logo on the tail-fin.

On board the 2.4 GHz fully proportional three channel electronics controlling throttle, elevator and rudder are pre-installed with sprung carbon pushrods to the rudder and elevator. The steerable tail wheel and scale looking sprung wire landing gear comes complete with lightweight foam Cub “doughnut” wheels, enabling the model to take off and land on smooth surfaces.

This one box purchase comes complete with everything included, a 2.4Ghz transmitter, 1S 3.7volt 120 mAh Li-Po battery and Li-Po balancing charger powered by 4 AA dry batteries. With no further building or additional purchases needed this super little model can be in the air in no time at all.

Designed primarily for indoor flight and weighing in at a mere 25 grams this super model is sure to delight indoor pilots with its scale like flying characteristics and good looks and there is no doubt that this great little model could also be flown outdoors in very calm conditions when there is little or no wind.

The Piper J-3 Cub

The Piper Aircraft Corporation in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, U.S.A manufactured one of the all time classic light aircraft, the Piper J3 Cub, and by the time production had ceased in 1947 with some 14,125 versions made. Being described as “simple”, “economical”, and above all “slow”, the J3 Piper Cub is indeed a classic.

During 1938 an improved version of the J3 Cub was introduced and William Piper took the opportunity to standardise the colour scheme, just as Henry Fords model T’s were all black, so William Piper’s Cubs were all bright yellow in a shade that has come to be known as “Cub Yellow” or "Lock Haven Yellow, with black trim. A colour scheme that is a vibrant now as it was then!

But the Cub today is by no means a aeroplane of the past. Modernised and up-engined versions are produced today by Cub Crafters of Washington and by American Legend Aircraft in Texas. The Cub continues to be sought after by bush pilots for its STOL capabilities, as well as by recreational pilots for its nostalgia appeal. A true classic.
