The new Spitfire from ParkZone is a delightful model, everything
need to go flying comes in the one box, the model, batteries,
charger, and assembly instructions, even the batteries for
the transmitter are included.
Assembly is straight forward, and this can be completed in about
the same time as it takes to charge the flight-pack, roughly forty
minutes, and the model is ready to fly.
At the flying field, a final check of the balance point
proved to be ok, and after a full range test was carried
out, we were ready for the first flight.
The wind was blowing at about fifteen mph, but steady,
so after a brisk hand-launch into wind the Spitfire was
away.
The model had a nice turn of speed into wind and climbed away
briskly, turns were nice with minimum control input, and the
Spitfire looked really great in the air, it was time to see
if the model had any nasty habits, so a bit more altitude was
gained before shutting the motor and pulling back on the elevator
to try and induce a stall, after what seemed an age the model
just slowly dropped it’s nose in a gentle stall with
no tendency to drop a wing, applying power recovered the model
instantly and safe in the knowledge that the model would not
let us down, it was time to test its aerobatic potential with
a series of typical Spitfire manoeuvres, victory rolls, big
lazy loops reversals, and stall turns, there were no worries
here, the Spitfire performed them all with ease, and the rolls
in particular looked really good, and after a few low passes
for the camera and it was time to land, this also proved to
be without drama and the model was landed right at our feet.
To sum up then, a beautiful model to fly, it looks good in the
air, it has no nasty habits, it has a generous flight time,
but best of all, it has great scale looks!
