ParkZone T-28 Trojan

ParkZone’s best to date? Well after the test flights we certainly think so.

Conditions

The test flights took place on a very windy day, and at one point the wind was gusting at about 20-24 knots however the day was nice and bright and best of all dry so we decided to give it a try.

Pre-Flight

As with all ParkZone models everything is included in the box so the first job was to put the included Li-Po battery on charge whilst the model was assembled, a simple task involving nothing more than sliding the tail plane into place and securing it with supplied clear tape top and bottom, the connect the elevator pushrod to the control horn. Fitting the tricycle undercarriage is next, again a simple task, the main legs clip into mounting in the underside of the wing and the steerable nose leg slots into place and just requires the tightening of one screw. Access to the battery is via the large canopy hatch, and the main wing is held in place with a single bolt and dowels.
With the battery charged the first job was to perform a range test, this was duly carried out and the new ZX10 had not only excellent range it also had a very nice positive feel about it unlike some of the less expensive radios that can come with some ARTF models.

Ready to Go

A quick check on the wind showed a little drop in strength however it was still windy so we just taxied the model around to check ground handling the steerable nose leg was a great help and the model seemed very steady, the decision to fly was made wind or no wind and the model was lined up into wind for what turned out to be a very uneventful take off, the motor – battery pack combination providing more the enough power and in no time at all the model was at altitude and ready for flight testing. What a surprise, here despite the strong winds was a model that could perform a full range of aerobatics, rolls and loops etc all done with ease and during stall testing the model remained virtually motionless during the low throttle- full up elevator routine with a prolonged “hover” before dropping it’s nose in a gentle stall, application of power recovered the model instantly. The few stalwart modellers that were at the field were very impressed as were we and the transmitter was handed round for others to try, their verdict, fantastic! How much? What do you get with it?
Well after a good flight of around 15 minutes the model was lined up for a landing and just like the takeoff it was uneventful with the radio response being very crisp and more than able to counter the effects of the wind. The smooth landing was followed by a nice taxi pack to the pit area where the other modellers had a good look over the model, our response and theirs was very positive, fully aerobatic, stable in the wind and a nice duration from the Li-Po pack, ParkZone have definitely got it right, the T-28 Trojan is “ brilliant”
