Our spring produced less than calm conditions over the show weekend but never the less there was plenty of action in the air.
The Rougham Air Show took place over the weekend of the 5th May.
This being the first public air show of the season it was very well attended by both model flyers and members of the public. Everyone’s expectations for this years opener were fulfilled, and throughout the weekend, all were treated to the very best in model flying.
The weather on the Saturday was sunny but rather fresh, the wind was light and made for perfect flying conditions. Sunday dawned
and with it a few dark clouds and a much stronger wind which stayed throughout the day, making it impossible for some models to fly. However this did not dampen the moral of the eighty or so pilots that were flying, nor did it deter the public from the flight line which was well populated on both days. The attendance at the show was well in excess of three thousand on the Saturday and not far short of that on the Sunday. The trade was also well represented with over forty stands all selling a variety of model goods.

The Flying

The Horizon Flying Team Pilots, John Norris and Perry Lambert were in attendance with several exciting planes from Hangar 9, E-Flite, New Power Modelismé, and Air Loisirs. Perry had a great time flying the large P61 Black Widow, so much so that at one point he ran out of fuel in one tank, and continued the flight with one engine, landing without any problems.
The flying started with Banner Flying then came World War 1 Planes followed swiftly by the Jet Trainers and many more exciting models throughout the day.
The start of flying for John and Perry saw the first public showing of the new Hangar 9 1.50 Scale Mustang ‘Ferocious Frankie’ powered by a 1.80 four stroke engine and controlled by Horizon’s DX7 Spektrum Radio featuring the new 2.4Ghz technology.
Also making it’s debut was the Hangar 9 Showtime 50, an aerobatic model powered by an Evolution 52 two stroke engine, again controlled by Horizon’s 2.4Ghz DX7 Spektrum radio system. John flew and displayed the model in a very spirited manner displaying it to it’s best and both planes were very well received. John and Perry were as always on hand to answer any questions from the public and fellow modellers alike!

The new Hangar 9 1.50 scale 'Ferocious Frankie' Mustang flew for the first time, although the pilot (below) looked like he'd been around for a little longer.
