North London Model Flying Club Scale Day

A must attend event for any scale modeller is the “Scale Day” organised by the North London Model Flying Club at their beautifully maintained flying site near Baldock in Hertfordshire.

This years scale day held on Sunday 7th June proved that despite the efforts of the weather to ruin the day it was well worth attending as by around 10.30am the rain had stopped, the sun came out and it turned out to be another great day for those dedicated pilots that attended with scale models of all types and sizes from vintage civilian aircraft right up to and including 100 inch + WW2 warbirds and turbine powered modern Jets in attendance.

This largely informal event is a “fly-off the peg” with no slots as such and as such there is no pressure to fly to a strict time scale, however with so many of the flyers being long time friends it was not to long before many of the warbird pilots grouped up for some very entertaining beat ups!

flight saw the same group joined by Ken Shepherd
flying the all electric “Gunfighter” Mustangs from Parkzone join forces to outnumber and dogfight
with Barry’s electric BF109.

Perry’s dad John had some very nice flights with his DB Scale SE5a biplane and it looked very realistic in the air, other notable models included Ken Bones and Mike Booth (Flying Legends) with their superb Spitfires and it has to be said that after two years designing, making the fibreglass moulds and the million and one other details that Mike put into getting these Spitfires ready for production, the result is fantastic!

Another fine model that caught the eye was Gregg Veasy’s scratch built Mitsubishi Zero, built from Meister plans and Gregg has done a magnificent job detailing the model.

All in all then another fine day at a great venue and with the rain holding off until after the presentation at about 4.30pm all but a few modellers managed to get packed away in the dry before heading home, no doubt with a view to returning again next year. Crowd
Despite the early rain it turned out to be a fantastic day

On behalf of all the flyers a big thank you to the North London Model Flying Club
