Caldicot RC Racers Winter Off Road Series Round 1

So it was round 1 of the caldicot winter series and I was in attendance running my Team Orion powered TLR 22-4 2.0. There being 5 heats of 4wd 2 heats of 2wd 2 heats of vintage and a heat of micros there was a good turn out for the 1st round. I was in a nice heat with there being 5 of us with a very similar ability and all of us being great friends. My car was OK in controlled practice but it did need some changes. I went softer in the front oil from 32.5 to 30wt and went softer in the rear spring from a pink to a yellow std spring which made the car much better and me not needing to make big changes like that all day then and it only being small changes.

Round 1
Round 1 I was still getting used to the track so not being totally on pace but I was in top 10 just missing out on the 20 laps by just over 1 second. The main issues I had was the sun coming through the big windows and shinning on the polished flooring which was hurting my eyes which added on to me suffering with my eyes anyway that day also so not being able to get a clean run in.

Round 2
Making some changes again helped the car Alot and I managed to get the 20 lapper in and that put me in the top 10 still and looking good but still not a clean run.

Round 3
Still making small changes to help the car be more easy to drive I got another improvement in and the car getting better and better but the grip got higher on the polish floor and me making a small mistake and grip rolling cost me a better time and also getting stuck where a marshal didn't see me at first but car getting much better.

Round 4
I was happy with the car now so made no changes for the last round of qualification and me concentrating on getting a clean run. I got to the 4mins mark with a super fast time looking to get the 21 laps and then me and my good friend Chris Young had a small coming together on the right corner table top and this cost us both the 21 laps but a confident booster because it showed I had the pace.

Qualification reflect
Looking at my times I was looking good to make the A final but it ended up being 9 car finals which knocked me out of the A final by under a second so I started pole in the B final.

The Final
A scrappy start at the beginning with me getting knocked off the track which put me in around 7th place and me taking a deep breath and making fast and consistent laps I managed to get up to 3rd I was behind 2nd and me knowing I could make a pass. I put a little more power early coming onto the sweeper before the straight and a managed to make my way next to 2nd and then making an outside pass on 2nd place at the sweeper at the end of the straight I then put more fast and consistent laps in and caught up to 1st place following him for a couple laps then he made a mistake giving me the lead. I pulled away from the whole race and getting through traffic clean with the help of Tomos Owen who was calling me through on the mic and then it turned out I lapped the whole field. And winning the race by a lap showing I had the pace in the end to make it to the A final which is where I hope to be in Round 2 of the series.

So this would mean that I'm now 10th overall after Round 1 of the series so looking good for the series.
