One of the highlights
of the winter season is the two-day indoor event,
and Carpet Wars was one not to miss. The track
was fast and flowing, with the usual combination
of bot dots and road rail marking out the layout
providing the perfect system for racing; as the
unforgiving nature of the bot dots would reward
those who could get close enough to produce the
fast lap times and punish those who went in too
tight! The carpet provided a good level of grip
for all the drivers (even a little too much for
some at times) which gave perfect qualifying and
racing conditions. |

This meeting attracted
big names such as Andy Moore, Olly Jefferies, Chris
Grainger, Russell Williams and with many others in
attendance in their respective classes all were competing
for the cash prize put up by the Maritime Club. Saturday
started early, with every driver getting a single
chance to get used to the track layout and by 9.00am
the racing was underway with the first round of qualifying.
There was five rounds of qualifying was more than
enough time for each driver to get in that crucial
FTD run; followed by three legged finals, of which
only two counted. |
