Round five
took place at the long fast track at Brooklands in Kent
but once again bad weather was forecast which limited
the practice on Saturday.
On Sunday the track dried out which gave everyone some
dry qualifying, at the end of Darren Johnson was sitting
on TQ with Stephen Brown (Nova Rossi) in third. Unfortunately
as the cars went to the line for the A final it started
to rain very hard. Most drivers went straight to the pits
for some wet tyres, which meant wet pit men too!
After a very tough final Stephen Brown took a well deserved
win for Nova Rossi, with Darren in fourth, giving both
drivers good points in the championship battle, where it
looks like it could be a Nova Rossi 1 - 2.
Round six of the BRCA 200mm Touring championship took place
at the excellent Halifax circuit. This is the second time
this season for the Halifax track but unfortunately the
weather forecast was all too familiar!
Saturday practice was run in steady rain, quite hard at
times, but amazingly the track does not puddle at all and
the cars come off virtually dry, even when it’s raining!
The forecast was a little better for Sunday, and although
the first round started damp everyone managed to get at
least one dry run.
After qualifying, Stephen Brown (Nova Rossi) took TQ from
Mark Gilliland and Robin Hammett with Darren Johnson in
fourth.
Darren managed to get a great start and crossed the line
second after the first lap. He then put a good move on
Stephen for the lead and managed to pull away a little,
but there was no time to relax as there were some different
fuel strategies saving a bit of time. Darren's car remained
consistent for the whole final and he was able to bring
home the win as well as the fastest laps in the final.
Stephen finished in second with young charger Kyle Branson
keeping the older racers honest in third!
So another good weekend for Nova Rossi, taking TQ at all
six rounds this season and three wins. In the championship
Darren leads from Kyle and Stephen. |
