Over the past 14 years since the DMS Model Car Club has been running we have always seen a good number of racers attend our midweek racing series and a fairly high standard of driving ability. The club has managed to produce several talented racers over the years, most noticbly Horizon Hobbies very own Darren Bloomfield who learnt his trade by racing every week at our club and indeed was crowned champion on several occasions along the way.
Our club run two race classes which are simply split into “off road buggies” where the club first started out and “1/10th saloon”. We run two championships throughout the year, the summer and winter series. The summer series kicks off in April each year and lasts a gruelling 20 weeks, with your best 12 rounds to count towards your series total, it really is a marathon series. The 2007 series was no exception to previous years with a total of 89 competitors racing in all, 64 in touring and 25 in off road.
At the start of the series the wins were shared between several racers in both classes, but once we were passing the halfway stage it became clear we had two favourites to win, Darren Boyle running the Losi JRXS Type–R in saloon and Andy Otoo running the Losi XX4 WE in buggies. This did in fact prove to be the case with Darren recording a maximum score of 600 points (50 per round) with 12 wins and 5 second places along the way. Andy Otoo narrowly missed the perfect score but did get the next best thing on 599 claiming 11 wins, a second and two thirds along the way. All in all a great result for both drivers and in particular for Team Losi who took both titles, the final top tens positions ended up as follows: |

So on to the winter series, a smaller series but just as competitive especially when the really cold months draw in and racing indoors in the warm becomes more appealing. This years series was again hotly contested with 60 drivers in total, 41 in saloon and 19 in buggies over the ten weeks of racing (6 to count this time). Every was out to improve and better there positions from the summer and at every round the racing was close, hard fought and exciting. Once again though it was the same two drivers who came out on top (Darren Boyle and Andy Otoo) both driving Losi cars. This feat of both drivers retaining the title had never been achieved before in our clubs history, if one class fell to the same driver the other never did, but not this year. Darren, again running the JRXS Type-R once more recorded a maximum score of 600 (100 per round) with six round wins and 2 seconds along the way, but yet again Andy Otoo with his XX4 WE was just short of the maximum on yet another agonising 599, notching up 5 wins and two seconds. Although disappointed he did not achieve the hoped for maximum score he was still thrilled to be the outright champion for 2007 for buggies! |
