The Frankley Charity Shield was Held at the weekend At Frankley Model Car Club In Birmingham Which attract some 70 drivers made up of well presented Truggies and well Represented Buggies Including the Likes of Greg Hill (Xray) Simon Willetts (Losi) and the ever Popular Wez Miles (Hobao) who helped organise the Charity for this years event
At Drivers Briefing the explanation of how the day was to be made up of a couple of additional Challenges including a “Super Lap Challenge” and the “Race of Champions” along with the standard race day format of 3 rounds of Qualifying and Finals with the Qualifying for the weekend being FTD, Wes Miles was Also Tasked with Raising enough Money to See the Poor Mr Maddog (Glyn Morgan) to have for £100 have his head shaved Bald (or as close as possible) and £200 to be bodily Waxed in front of everyone

After the 3 rounds of Qualifying had been completed it was down to a bit of Charity Fun with an event Haply Named “Super lap”, this was a very simple event and loads of fun which entailed the creation of a Zone before the timing loop, Divers Cars were then place in the Zone, without any marshals at all, the aim was the fastest Completed Lap without Crashing……If you crashed you were out, this was very Entertaining as some of the drivers were pushing for the lap and crashed.

With the Sportsmanship of Simon Willetts he offered to do the Lap with any Drivers Car which was good fun and Drove Barry Classist’s Car after a Couple who offered Couldn’t get their cars to the Start Line and Simon Completed the Lap to Finish in a very respectable 5th Overall. The Top 5 Super Lap were as follows; 1st Andrew Nicholas 43.67, 2nd John Murphy 45.08, 3rd Mathew Ball 45.85, 4th Nick Simmerson and in 5th was Simon Wiletts 46.33.

After the Super Lap Had Been Completed it was then on to the Raffle and I have to say what a Fantastic Raffle it was with some really Nice Prizes, Can I take this opportunity in Thanking all of the Donators.

After the Brilliant Raffle it was then on to the Finals which Would also Created the Finale of the Day which Would be Haply Name “The Race Of Champions” So the Finals in reverse Order

E Final; 1st Sophie Harries, 2nd Darren Cruchley, 3rd Lee David
D Final; 1st Martin Hall, 2nd Matt Alcock, 3rd Patrick Savage
C Final; 1st Mark Kay, 2nd Kevin Weaver, 3rd Martin Hall

During the C final it was that Fateful event of how much was raised to see The Maddog Be Shaved or Waxed, Raised Through the course of the day By Wes was £70 and The Maddog had thought he had got away with it But, the Sneaky thing was that Teresa (Glyn’s Wife) And the FMCC team Clubbed together and guess what made it to £100 so……

Back onto Finals

A Final Truggies; 1st Andrew Nicholas, 2nd Micheal Lewis, 3rd Jack Laws

The overall Winner of the Charity Shield Would also Be a different affair in Which the overall winner would be the Driver with the Most completed laps in the least amount of time in any final or any class with all the finals being the same amount of time this could have been anyone’s Win.

The Final Order for the charity Shield went as follows;

5th Nick Simmerson 18/942.41 (RallyX B Final)

The Overall Finale was to be held back for a little while due to Torrential rain that fell for around 10 minutes and wet the track enough to produces large puddles which required Removing.

During This time the presentation of the Charity Shield was awarded to Simon Willetts and the announcement of the Most Important Issue of what Had Been Raised for the Charity.

We are Proud to say through the course of the day including the full entry fees donations from Drivers, Raffle tickets, “The Wes Miles Task” and other Donation Including the generous BRCA Donation the Club raised on the day £1550.00 which has now been increased for the Handing Over day to be held soon a Grand Total of £1600.00

Now Onto the Finale Race of Champions

This was the Final event of the day and made to be a bit special with the format allowing Lower final Drivers to Enter by Taking the Pole driver and the winning driver from every final to make up the Race of Champions Hence the Name

To make this an event on a reasonable level Playing field Handicaps were given to The A final Drivers for Both RallyX and Truggies (-4laps) B Final(-3 laps) C Final (-2 Laps) and so to make more fun and a more level field even worse for the A final Drivers…It was Just 10 Minutes
