Due to the popularity of the 1:8th off road class the number of
buggies available is enormous, just about every manufacturer has
peered over the shoulder of the competition and released their
own car. Now take a close look at this mass of cars……can you really
tell them apart?? Lets face it, chassis layout hasn’t differed
for many a year, all have similar suspension packages, all with
the transmission running straight down the centre. The consequence
of this layout is that the engine, one of the heaviest and most
critical components of any gas buggy, is left hanging out to one
side! Obviously this seriously compromises the centre of gravity
within the chassis and means that a good balance can be hard to
achieve. So does anybody out there want just another 1:8th buggy?
Neither do we……….……enter the Team Losi 8IGHT!!
The Team Losi 8IGHT redefines 1:8th off-road nitro buggy racing
with the first new and unique buggy design in over 10 years. The
8IGHT uses the same innovative thinking, sophisticated technology,
hi-tech materials, and cutting-edge design that has separated Team
Losi's racing vehicles from the rest of the pack for over 25 years.
The look is different, the handling has been vastly improved, and
the features are endless. The engine now sits smack in the middle
of the chassis thanks to the revolutionary drivetrain that runs
around the engine with a super smooth constant velocity joint system.
This gives the 8IGHT the best weight distribution of any gas buggy
out there!
With the engine where it should be this also gave the engineers
the scope to make the chassis area super narrow. This has several
advantages, but by far the biggest is the masses of extra ground
clearance it offers the car whilst cornering, no more fat side
skirts scrapping the track surface as you go for that apex! The
centrally mounted engine also offers a much safer environment for
your tuned pipe. With it sitting further inside the track of the
wheels it is far less likely to suffer crush damage in the event
of impact.
The finest chassis layout needs a suspension package to match,
and the 8ight doesn’t disappoint. Again, the vast majority of 1:8th
cars use a pillow ball system at the front. The design team at
Losi extensively ran the Losi ‘H’ arm set-up against the pillow
ball system in back to back testing, and without fail the ‘H’ arm
won out giving a superior feel through the corners and over those
bumps and jumps. Then there are those wonderful shocks, oversized
and super smooth, no other buggy can soak up the terrain like the
8IGHT.
From the centrally mounted motor, to the oversized shocks, to
the 4-shoe clutch, to the extra-thick machined chassis, everywhere
you look there are ingenious features that yield both performance
and durability. The revolutionary drive train, meticulous attention
to detail and brilliant design are simply unmatched. The 8IGHT
offers the enthusiast a 21st century off-road racer that is easy
to tune, easy to maintain, and most of all easy to drive fast.
