When the RC monster truck enters the arena there’s only one thing that
matters. Big, bigger monster truck! His appearance is staggering and majestic.
If there’s a car that is going to have grip on uneven terrain then it’s the RC
monster truck. Huge ground clearance, massive and wide tires, strong shocks and
a high centre of gravity are his most distinctive features.
Are you playing with the thought of getting a RC car? You want it to be a monster truck? Are you ready for this beast? Then there’s a couple of things you should know about your new buddy:
First of all he needs grip. That’s why it’s all about the tires. They have to
be huge, wide and as soft as possible to guaranty the perfect grip on every
terrain. Your monster truck must also be able to land on its wheels when you do
backflips or other jumps. Always bear in mind, that you will need a lot of power
when choosing your motor.
Double electric motors or
large nitro engines are
never a disadvantage in a monster truck.
… and now it’s time to break with an old prejudice. The old formula “monster truck = slow” was overhauled a long time ago. A lot of models will do 100 km/h on rough terrain with ease these days. But bear in mind that speed actually plays a secondary role when going off-road because the monster truck, with its high centre of gravity, was designed to dominate sand, gravel, stones, hills, mud and puddles. Tearing into corners at high speeds will most likely make him topple so use your throttle with care!
You are new to the RC car family and you are not sure, if a monster truck is
right for you? Don’t worry, monster trucks are perfect for beginners because
they are very forgiving to driving errors and they don’t break easily either.
For advanced drivers and pros the monster truck holds a huge amount of challenges and fun too. On the one side there’s the immense fun of taking this beast off-road and on the other there’s infinite tuning and tinkering possibilities. Gearbox, suspension, steering, lowering the centre of gravity, repainting, … there’s no end to the fun.
There is a small downside though. Competitions and championships for monster trucks are somewhat rarer than those for buggys and truggys. On the upside, these competitions are a lot more diverse because they concentrate on the real strengths of this RC car class such as doing tricks and jumps, climbing in rough terrain or showing pure muscle.
We hope we can soon congratulate you to your brand new monster truck! Go racing!
